American mining giant Alcoa is abandoning plans to extend bauxite exploration into Perth’s Hills’ unique jarrah forests, specifically around Mundaring Weir.

An unprecedented 59,000 public submissions against Alcoa’s expansion, contributed to what’s a remarkable turn around.

In an interview with 6PR, Paige McNeil President Shire of Mundaring acknowledged Alcoa made the ‘right but ‘difficult corporate decision’ - suggesting other big corporates, might consider following the lead.
