Shock announcement for Save Perth Hills in Federal Parliament…

With Nigel $atterley’s State Tribunal North $toneville appeal still live and kicking, our local Federal Member Trish Cook, has announced the Federal Labor Govt is paying $1.5 million for Parkerville’s Brooking Rd Extension.

It is no secret this road plan is a key feature of $atterley’s ‘bushfire solution’ to North $toneville. We know this new by-pass comes with major engineering challenges due to the significant slope, and will require substantial tree canopy and vegetation destruction, and create pollution risks for Jane Brook.

Stoneville-Parkerville Progress Association (SPPA) has today requested the latest design plans from Mundaring Shire, given local residents’ concerns that the road will be higher than their roof tops.

We’re gobsmacked by the timing of this announcement – closing submissions on the North $toneville appeal are being prepared by all parties – including $atterley.

Just like the rushed EPBC decision giving $atterley permission to bulldoze North $toneville’s 60,000 trees... there was no pressing need to make this decision - while the Tribunal is sitting.

And the name of this brand-new road funding scheme?

“SLURP” - defined by the Oxford Dictionary as a ‘loud sucking noise of someone eating or drinking.’

Make of that, what you will....

Our apologies but we only have Facebook video of Trish’s statement. To help our none Facebook supporters I’ll provide a text version below.

We’ve also created a Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program called SLURP and that’s $200 million per year nationally which is $50 million more than the two programs that it is replacing. And in my electorate of Bullwinkel this program is funding the 1.5 million dollar extension of Brooking Road, Parkerville. A huge bushfire risk area so that’s a huge win for our local community.
